At Laser Čepin d.o.o., we are proud to have been selected for the SPIRIT SLOVENIA program – “Support for start-ups, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises in the strategic sustainable and circular transformation of business operations in the years 2022–2025”. The program is called the Academy of Strategic Sustainable and Circular Transformation (Academy STKT). With the support and guidance of Prof. Dr. Adriana Rejc Buhovac, a member of the SPIRIT expert group, we are developing the Laser Čepin 2024-2028 Sustainable and Circular Business Strategy for an effective transition of the company into a sustainable future.

Our commitment to sustainability doesn’t stop at words. Even before the start of the project, we introduced numerous improvements in the company, most notably the establishment of our own nitrogen production plant and the generation of energy through a solar power plant. We are also in the process of obtaining the ISO 14001 standard – environmental management systems.

Phase A: Strategic transformation

Our collaboration with SPIRIT Slovenia is currently in Phase A, which focuses on a comprehensive strategic transformation of our business operations. This phase involves a wide range of company employees, including both leaders and experts.

We have analyzed all processes from the perspective of sustainability and circularity, the industry, and the broader environment, and created a so-called materiality matrix. The materiality matrix highlights the sustainability challenges that are very important to Laser Čepin’s stakeholders and also have a significant potential impact on the company’s business performance. A broad range of potential sustainability challenges was identified through workshops, and their importance was confirmed by surveying employees, partners, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders both in Slovenia and abroad.

Based on this, we will define measurable strategic goals and prepare a portfolio of strategic activities (development projects) to achieve these goals. Each includes detailed project documentation focused on analyzing proposals for the transition from a linear to a circular system, incorporating sustainable and circular principles into all areas of our business operations. Together with experts and mentors, we have laid solid foundations and clear guidelines for continuing the sustainable transformation.

Phase B: Innovative solutions and product development

In the second phase of the project, Phase B, we will develop an innovative solution (a proprietary product and supporting technological processes) that will fulfill the strategic goals of our sustainable and circular business strategy. We will place special emphasis on sustainability principles throughout the entire value creation process, which will contribute to our competitiveness in the market.
